| Carl Palka was born into the
entertainment world at age four, when his Father, a swing musician from the speakeasy
days handed him a coronet and taught him how to play "Mary Had a Little Lamb".
Then, after taking away the sheet music, he told Carl to "Jazz it up, now".
The next decade he spent playing at school and church, learning gospel and
classical music. As a teenager, he picked up the sax, and played in local funk
bands, playing high school dances, and wedding receptions. Participation in church
choir helped Carl develop a vocal style, along with the guidance of his Mother,
who, as a radio personality had a lot of expertise with voice. Blues, Jazz, Rock,
Top 40, Soul, and whatever else would pay the bills was the fare for his "bar
band singer" experience in Michigan, Florida, and Seattle,Washington. Occasional
experience as a warm-up act for established acts in larger venues was enough to
inspire Carl to develop a real affinity for the stage.
