...Meet Gard Gaffney
The dream of being a rock
star started at the age of seven when Gard Gaffney purchased his first drum set
with money from his first communion. As the years went by, Gaffney who was born
and raised in West Bloomfield, Michigan began taking lessons with Detroit's jazz
great Fran Merwin who at almost 90 years old today, still plays strong.
In
hopes that noise around the house would be played down, Gaffney's parents purchased
him a guitar and at only age 13, Gaffney landed his first bar gig earning $60
playing three sets from 10pm to 2am at Jack's Bar (Pontiac, MI).
By the
age of 15, Gaffney began renting a four track tape machine, recording and playing
all the instruments on his own original compositions. Since then, Gaffney has
amassed a huge arsenal of musical instruments and recording equipment.
From
'87 to '94 Gaffney spent time in Newport Beach, California recording music but
returned to Motown were his talent continues with two musicians: Scotty B on bass
who has played with the likes of B.B. King, the Neville Brothers, Chris Isaak,
and recent Temptations shows (see. ScottyB.net)
On drums his long time live drummer Tom Niemenski (see.
Vault Studio). Gard plays all the guitars, sings and writes all his songs.
He has written over 250 songs in several genres and is interested in selling to
other artists.
Gaffney is currently seeking a supportive record label and
professional management. His band is ready to showcase on tour at a moments notice.
The Gard Gaffney band performs regularly around the Metro Detroit area and is
considered by fans to be one of the most original sounding bands to come out in
years. With such diverse influences as; The Beatles, Elvis, Prince, and David
Bowie. Gaffney's music is not only a remarkable artistic feat but also a testament
to his vision and grit.
